”Malaria/Mosquitoes”

Malaria is endemic to the Mpumalanga region of the country including Panzi Bush Lodge and the Kruger National Park. We are on the edge of the Malaria belt, thus although very uncommon, we are in a malaria area. As far as we are informed we have never had a guest who contracted Malaria whilst at Panzi Bush Lodge, but in the interests of your personal safety we recommend that precautions be taken. We are very proactive in respect of the measures we put in place to control mosquitoes at Panzi Bush Lodge. Every month we spray K-Othrin around all our buildings and thatch. This is a spray designed specifically to deter mosquitoes and is used across Africa as a prevention for malaria by both government and the private sector. All stagnant and still water in and around camp are sprayed and treated with Vectobac (a natural chemical which kills mosquitoes in their pupa stage of life which takes place in the water). Once a week every room is also doom fogged. This is to control all insects, including mosquitoes, and is done inside the room. Peaceful sleep repellent is also available in all rooms and on safari vehicles. Please consult your physician for further information on the various anti-malarial prophylactics available. For additional information on the malaria situation in this region, you can also contact the Kruger National Park malaria hotline on + 27 (0)82 234 1800 or visit the website http://www.cdc.gov/malaria/faq.htm

”Recycling”

We hold a recycling certificate which states we recycle all goods at Panzi Bush Lodge, including plastic, tins, paper and glass. Leftover food is buried in compost holes to return to the ground.

”VAT”

VAT is currently at 14% and is included in the price of most goods, services and hotel accommodation. Foreign tourists qualify for a VAT refund on items purchased and taken out of the country upon departure. No VAT refund may be claimed on goods consumed or services rendered in South Africa.

”Medical”

All our rangers have a minimum qualification of level 1 First Aid. We carry first aid bags in all vehicles, and have a fully equipped first aid bag at the lodge. We have a 24hour back-up medical and emergency service 30 minutes away and a helicopter emergency evacuation service. A doctor and hospital is also 30 minutes away from the Lodge. Full safety procedures and measures are followed both in and out of camp.
